In Germany, Green Party leader urges Merz government to get to work
In Germany, Green Party co-chair Felix Banaszak called on Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s government to get to work amid speculation about a possible change of head of government. Speaking in Berlin on Monday, the politician said he was extremely annoyed by the numerous assumptions about the future of the chancellor and the coalition.
Call for responsibility
According to Deutsche Welle English, Banaszak stressed that he did not vote for Merz, but the chancellor and his coalition were elected and therefore bear responsibility for governing the country. He urged the government to focus on its work, noting that the country is going through dramatic times.

Discussions about the coalition’s future
Banaszak drew attention to discussions about the possible formation of a minority government, the likely dismissal of ministers representing the Social Democratic Party of Germany, as well as scenarios involving Merz’s early replacement.
In the Green Party co-chair’s view, these discussions indicate that Merz and the leadership of his Christian Democratic Union are losing control both of the coalition and of debates within their own party. He called this a bad sign.
