Pakistan launches electronic attendance tracking in colleges — Dawn
The Higher Education Department of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has launched an electronic system for tracking student attendance in colleges. It will send parents SMS notifications about their children's class attendance, including classes missed by a student.
System launch in Peshawar
The system was launched during a ceremony at Government College Peshawar. The event was attended by the provincial minister for higher education and local government, Meena Khan Afridi, representatives of Zong Telecom, the secretary and director of the Higher Education Department, as well as teachers and students.
The Higher Education Department and Zong Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding to implement the digital attendance tracking system. Dawn reports on the system's launch.

Digital initiatives
According to Afridi, the department is continuing its digital transformation to modernize higher education in the province. An electronic transfer system and a university ranking system had already been introduced there earlier.
The minister also announced the introduction of allowances for teachers working in remote and hard-to-reach areas. In addition, he announced the construction of a modern hall at Government College Peshawar, which is intended to provide students with modern educational opportunities.
