In Mamelodi, South Africa, four suspects, including an active police sergeant, were arrested following an armed confrontation with law enforcement officers and security personnel at a tavern in the Nkandla Hostels complex. This was reported by TimesLIVE.

Shooting at the tavern

The incident occurred on Saturday at about 10:30 p.m. in the Extension 36 area. Police and security personnel arrived at the tavern after receiving a report about people with weapons. According to the police statement, they were fired upon as they approached the establishment.

Law enforcement officers took cover, surrounded the premises and loudly ordered the suspects to surrender. Police say they did not comply with the demand, after which officers used the minimum necessary force to bring the situation under control. Four people were arrested. Four fired cartridge cases were found during a search at the scene.

Weapon and substance resembling heroin

According to police, a weapon with erased serial numbers was found behind a freezer. Investigators believe it may be a police firearm stolen during a robbery in Olivenhoutbos earlier this year. This information will be verified as part of the investigation through forensic examination.

A bag containing a substance that law enforcement believes resembles heroin was also seized from the premises. One of those arrested is an active police sergeant serving at a police station in Randburg. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon. Possible charges include attempted murder, discharging a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition and drugs.
