Sibongile Segobola to hold Africa’s first One Woman Fearless summit in South Africa
In Ekurhuleni, Gauteng province, South Africa, Sibongile “MomSbo” Segobola will hold the first One Woman Fearless summit on the African continent this Saturday. Organizers expect the global women’s empowerment movement’s event to bring together around 215 leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals and community activists.
As TimesLIVE reports, the summit program will focus on life purpose, courage, leadership and overcoming difficult circumstances. The keynote speaker will be strategy and leadership expert Dr Sonja Stribling. Speakers from South Africa and other countries will also take part.
The organizer’s personal story
Segobola said that her mother died of ovarian cancer in July 1991, when she was a pregnant teenager in her second year of a teaching diploma program in Polokwane, Limpopo province. Due to the advanced stage of her pregnancy, she was unable to travel from Johannesburg to Limpopo for her mother’s funeral, where she was buried on August 3. Four days later, on August 7, Segobola gave birth to a daughter.

Two years ago, her sister died of ovarian cancer, and in July this year Segobola lost her brother to throat cancer. According to her, these losses shaped her life’s purpose, and the summit is intended to become a safe space for women who have experienced grief, trauma or other difficult events.
The movement’s debut in Africa
Canadian social entrepreneur Charla Brown, who founded the One Woman Fearless movement in 2015, selected Segobola as the movement’s first city ambassador in Africa. According to the organization, more than 200 such summits have already been held in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Among the speakers at the upcoming event will be a woman who lost both parents to HIV in childhood and will share her own experience of overcoming hardships.
