A stabbing occurred at a monastery in Poland; one person was killed
A knife attack occurred at a Benedictine nuns’ monastery in Jarosław, Poland. Five people were injured, and one of the priests later died in the hospital. The attack took place on the morning of September 24 on the grounds of the Jarosław Abbey on Benedyktyńska Street. Around 9:30 a.m., police received a report of a knife attack. According to preliminary information from Polish police, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen stabbed four men and one woman. All of the victims were taken to the hospital. Three men sustained serious injuries.
One of the wounded priests later died. This was reported by Polish media, and Reuters confirmed the information about one fatality and four injured. Law enforcement officers detained the suspect at the scene. Currently, the police and the prosecutor’s office are investigating how exactly the attack occurred and what caused it. The Ukrainian Embassy in Poland has responded to the tragedy. It strongly condemned the attack and emphasized that violence against people can never be justified. “We strongly condemn the brutal attack that took place on September 24 on the grounds of the Benedictine nuns’ monastery in Jarosław. We consider any manifestations of violence to be unacceptable,” the embassy’s statement reads.
Ukrainian diplomats also expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. They also thanked Polish law enforcement, medical personnel, and other services that responded at the scene. The embassy emphasized that it is now important to await the results of the investigation and refrain from drawing premature conclusions. “We are confident that the competent authorities will thoroughly and objectively establish all the circumstances of the tragedy, and those responsible for the incident will be held accountable in accordance with applicable law,” the diplomatic mission stated.
They also added that in such situations, it is important to prevent further hostility or violence. “Accountability for the crime must be based solely on the law,” the embassy emphasized. Polish law enforcement agencies are currently continuing their investigation. They are working to establish the exact circumstances of the attack, the suspect’s motive, and all the details of the incident.
