Calls are being made in Poland to block Ukraine's accession to the EU over Volhynia

The Law and Justice Party’s candidate for prime minister of Poland (PiS), Przemysław Czarnek, stated that his party will submit a draft resolution to the Sejm calling for Poland not to support Ukraine’s further progress toward European Union membership until historical disputes surrounding the Volhynia tragedy are resolved.

According to Czarnek, the document calls on the Polish government to oppose Ukraine’s further progress toward EU accession due to what he claims is the “glorification of those responsible for the Volhynia tragedy.”

The politician also stated that, in his opinion, the European Union should not admit a country that allegedly glorifies individuals involved in these historical events.

The initiative marks yet another statement by representatives of the PiS party, who have recently linked support for Ukraine’s European integration to issues of historical memory and the assessment of the events in Volhynia.

As a reminder, the U.S. is set to provide Poland with a $2 billion loan to purchase weapons: F-35 fighter jets, Patriot air defense missile systems, and Abrams tanks.

Earlier, Poland signed an agreement with the U.S. for the delivery of 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters, along with a logistics and training package, for a total of $10 billion.
