A Russian national was detained in Poland on suspicion of planning a murder in Warsaw
On August 7, Polish security services detained a Russian citizen who, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, was planning to assassinate a person with dual U.S. and Ukrainian citizenship in Warsaw. This was reported by Notes from Poland.
Tusk stated that the detainee had been recruited by the Russian intelligence services of the aggressor state, Russia. The operation was carried out by the Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW) with police support. According to the Polish prime minister, the attack was thwarted “at the last moment.”
The prime minister did not disclose the name of the detainee or the identity of the intended target. However, he said that this person is “inconvenient for Putin’s regime.” Tusk did not reveal any details regarding the likely method of the crime.

Tusk also stated that this is the first instance in which an individual acting on Russia’s orders allegedly planned an attack on a U.S. citizen on the territory of another NATO country.
Tomasz Semoniak, the minister responsible for Poland’s intelligence services, confirmed the arrest. He reported that the operation to prevent the attack was carried out in cooperation with the United States.
