In Poznań, drunk men attacked a Ukrainian teenager on a tram
In Poznań, Poland, a group of drunk men beat up a teenager from Ukraine while he was riding a tram. Another passenger came to the boy’s defense and was also attacked.
The wife of the Polish man who was injured during the altercation said that the incident occurred on Friday, July 17, while riding a tram from Dembiec toward the Sobieski neighborhood. According to her, there was a group of intoxicated men on the tram who were shouting insults at the Ukrainian boy. As the teenager was getting off the tram, one of them hit him on the head.
At that moment, a Polish man intervened. He reprimanded the group, pointing out that their behavior was inappropriate. An argument ensued. As the young men were getting off the tram, one of them allegedly spat at the man who had stood up for the child. The argument escalated into a fight.
“There were several drunk young men on the tram who were hurling insults at a Ukrainian guy. He didn’t say a single word. As he was getting off the tram, one of the thugs hit the guy on the head. The doors closed, and the young man was left at the stop, unable to react. Instead, my husband, a man in his 60s, confronted them. A loud argument broke out. As the group of thugs was getting off the tram, one of them spat on my husband. He jumped up and ran after them. A fight broke out. One of them—a two-meter-tall, burly man—struck my husband hard in the eye. My husband was wearing plastic glasses, which softened the blow somewhat. A young woman stepped in to break it up,” the victim’s wife said in a message sent to the editorial office of WTK TV.
After the incident, my husband returned home on the next tram. About half an hour after returning home, he lost his memory—he could not recall the events of that day or parts of his previous memories. He was taken to the emergency room and is currently under medical supervision. The case has been referred to the police.
Andrzej Borowiak, a spokesperson for the Greater Poland Voivodeship Police, reported that a report was filed with the Poznań-North Police Precinct. Law enforcement officials are investigating the case and reviewing CCTV footage.
