Russia has stepped up screenings of passengers arriving from Thailand due to a COVID-19 outbreak

At Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, passengers arriving from Bangkok have their temperatures taken before they even exit the plane. These measures were implemented in response to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Russian citizens returning to Russia from Thailand are not allowed to leave the plane until their temperatures have been checked. According to the Telegram channel Shot, this is due to the spread of COVID-19 in Thailand, where approximately 140,000 cases have been recorded since the beginning of 2026.

Passengers on a recent flight from Bangkok to Sheremetyevo Airport encountered a similar screening process. Even before the passengers disembarked, health and quarantine control officers equipped with thermal imaging cameras boarded the plane.

It is also reported that since the beginning of 2026, Thailand has recorded about 140,000 cases of COVID-19, of which approximately 65,000 occurred during the rainy season. Over the course of the year, 26 deaths have been recorded. Most of the deceased were elderly people and patients with severe chronic illnesses.

The White House is monitoring a possible plague outbreak in Russia.

As a reminder, a plague outbreak has occurred in Russia, and there has already been one fatality.

In Russia, nearly 200 people have been hospitalized after coming into contact with a woman who died of pneumonic plague.

Prior to this, the death of a woman from the plague was confirmed in Buryatia.
