Romania Warns of a Shift in Russia's Tactics Following New Drone Attacks
Radu Miruce, Romania’s acting defense minister, stated that Russia will continue to change its tactics for using drones, and Romania will have to constantly adapt to new threats.
Mirucea noted that Romania has already changed its approach to intercepting Russian drones due to changes in Russia’s tactics.
“Yes, our approach to intercepting these drones has also changed. These two processes have converged over time. Russia will continue to change its tactics, and we will have to constantly adapt. I don’t know exactly where it (the drone) was headed. It was flying in a straight line. It wasn’t making those zigzags I’ve read about in some articles,” the defense minister said.
When asked whether Russia is deliberately attacking Romanian territory, Miruce replied that he could not confirm this.
“I don’t know. All I know is that drones identified as Russian-made are entering Romanian airspace without permission and in violation of international law, given that Romania is not at war,” he said.
According to the acting defense minister, 32 such incidents have been recorded since the start of the full-scale war.
“Some drones carried explosive charges, others penetrated Romanian airspace only a short distance, and still others went deeper,” Miruce noted.
Radu Miruce also warned that a massive influx of Russian drones could radically change Romania’s response.
“If 150 drones were to fly in, that would mean peacetime is no longer an option. In such a situation, the Romanian army’s response would be completely different,” he said.
At the same time, the defense minister emphasized that he does not consider military escalation necessary, but called for a strong diplomatic response.
“I do not believe there is a need for military escalation, but, in my opinion, a decisive diplomatic protest is necessary. After all, why should Romania constantly have to spend resources shooting down drones launched from Russia that have no right to enter Romanian airspace?” he asked.

As a reminder, on Sunday, August 2, air raid sirens were sounded for the civilian population in eastern Romania for the second time that day. The country’s Ministry of Defense radar surveillance system detected an aerial target near the river border with Ukraine at 3:09 p.m.
In Poland, during a massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine on the night of July 30, an air raid alert was issued in part of the Lublin Voivodeship. After the alert ended, a crater approximately 10 meters in diameter and debris from an unidentified object were discovered in a field near the villages of Tarnava-Kolonia and Tokary.
