Two-storey residential building collapses in Anambra State
A two-storey residential building has collapsed in Nigeria's Anambra State. The incident occurred on Sunday in Inyaba-Umudim, Nnewi, within the Nnewi North Local Government Area. At the time of reporting, no deaths had been reported.
Assessment of the collapse site
The state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Chijioke Ojukwu, confirmed the incident to journalists after visiting the collapse site. This was reported by Premium Times Nigeria.
According to the official, residents of a neighboring three-storey building were served a notice for their safety and to allow an inspection of the structures' integrity. Ojukwu also said that all residents of this building, which shares a courtyard with the collapsed house, would be evacuated.

Building inspections
The commissioner said that buildings in the area would undergo mandatory technical condition inspections. Structures that fail the inspection will be demolished.
Ojukwu stated that the collapsed building had been poorly constructed and lacked the required ministry permit. He said that the developer had erected the structure on the fence of an existing three-storey building.
The official also said he intended to demolish throughout the state structures built on the fences of other buildings, those violating setback requirements, or those lacking proper permits.
