Two people were stabbed at a Sikh temple in Canada
At the Nanaksaur Gurudwara Sikh temple in Edmonton, Alberta, a man stabbed two visitors. Police reported that the suspect had been arrested.
The attack occurred on Friday around 5:00 a.m. local time. According to Edmonton police, the man entered the gurdwara and attempted to gain access to the prayer hall. Temple staff stopped him, after which a scuffle ensued, during which two men sustained stab wounds.
Witnesses intervened and subdued the attacker. The victims are 75 and 51 years old. Police identified them as worshippers at the temple and reported that they sustained minor injuries and are in stable condition.

The suspect is 27 years old; his identity has not been publicly disclosed. According to police, the man was known to law enforcement and had a history of violent assaults dating back to 2015. The day before the incident, he was released from a federal prison in Alberta, after which he failed to report to his assigned transitional housing in Edmonton.
Police have not yet filed charges and are investigating the motive for the attack, including whether it may have been linked to hate ideology. The World Sikh Organization, based in Canada, stated that a copy of the Sikh holy scripture was also desecrated during the incident. Police reported that they are verifying this information. The gurdwara has been closed to visitors pending the investigation.
The incident occurred after police confirmed last week that they were investigating threats against two Sikh gurdwaras in Calgary. The World Sikh Organization called the attack alarming amid rising anti-Sikh hatred in Canada.
