A vote on new sanctions against Russia is approaching in the U.S.
The U.S. House of Representatives has advanced a bill imposing new sanctions against Russia and Iran. A final vote on the bill could take place as early as September 16.
On September 14, the House Rules Committee approved the procedure for considering the bill by a vote of seven to three.
Procedural debates are set to begin on September 15. A vote on the rules of consideration is expected around 8:30 p.m. Kyiv time. If approved, the final vote on the bill could take place as early as September 16.
The bill provides for the U.S. president to impose tariffs of up to 100% on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India.
In addition, the bill provides for sanctions against Russian oligarchs, officials, military personnel, and their family members, as well as financial institutions, energy projects, and vessels associated with the shadow fleet.
The U.S. Senate has backed the bill. In August, the bill received 86 votes in favor and 11 against. If the House of Representatives also approves the measure, it will be sent to U.S. President Donald Trump for his signature.
