Police in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, detained three suspects after a clash that left two men dead and another injured. A fourth suspect remained at large, Taipei Times reports.

Clash at a closed spa center

According to Kaohsiung police, the incident occurred at night at a defunct wellness spa center on Baotai Street in Fengshan District. Three friends surnamed Lee, Lin and Chuang met another group of men there to discuss a drug debt.

During the conflict, the men were attacked with batons and knives, law enforcement officials said. Lee sustained severe head injuries, lost consciousness and was later pronounced dead. Lin and Chuang were taken to hospital with multiple injuries, where Lin later died.

Versions of the motive for the attack

Using surveillance camera footage, police tracked down four suspects who were seen leaving the scene together in a car. Law enforcement officials believe the conflict may have been linked to a dispute over a drug debt, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Chinese-language outlet United Daily News reported that the four attackers allegedly included two Tung brothers in their 40s. According to this version, they were angered by a demand to repay about NT$10,000 in drug debt that they allegedly owed to a member of Lee's group.

The outlet also wrote that the men arrived at the meeting at about 2am carrying knives and batons, blocked the spa center's door and attacked Lee's group when they tried to leave. At the same time, Liberty Times cited another version: the conflict may have arisen after Lee, Lin and Chuang refused to sell drugs worth about NT$10,000 on credit to the other group.
