Hungary has criticized the agreement between Ukraine and the EU on the restoration of the "Druzhba" pipeline

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó expressed strong dissatisfaction with the agreement between Kyiv and Brussels regarding technical assistance for the repair of the Druzhba oil pipeline.

In a post on Platform X, the Hungarian official called this initiative a political game and a belated reaction to restrictions on oil supplies. According to Szijjártó, the European Commission ignored the situation for 50 days, and the current steps are allegedly a pre-agreed scenario between Ukraine and EU leadership.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister appealed to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, demanding an end to the political theater and the immediate lifting of the oil blockade. While Russia uses energy resources to pressure European countries, Budapest continues to accuse Kyiv of creating artificial obstacles to transit. The Hungarian side insists that the EU’s proposal to restore the pipeline is part of broader political pressure, rather than a purely technical solution to stabilize the region’s energy supply.

Despite Budapest’s protests, Ukraine and the EU are preparing to send experts to assess the damage to the pipeline. Official Kyiv emphasizes its readiness for constructive cooperation with Brussels to ensure Europe’s energy security, while Hungary remains the most critical participant in the process. The situation surrounding the Druzhba pipeline continues to be a point of diplomatic contention amid discussions of a new financial aid package for Ukraine.

As a reminder, Orbán claimed that Ukrainians are threatening his family and children.

Orbán and Magyar also held mass rallies in Budapest ahead of the elections.
