Ukrainian polar explorers joined the international Run the Line race in support of the military
Ukrainian polar explorers from the Akademik Vernadsky Station joined the international Run the Line race, organized in support of the Ukrainian military. People in Antarctica ran across icy cliffs and raised the Azov flag, demonstrating that support knows no borders or distances.
The Ukrainian Antarctic expedition unexpectedly found itself among the participants of the international Run the Line race, which brought people together across different continents to support the Ukrainian military, and even the icy wind and remoteness from civilization did not prevent the polar explorers from taking part in the race. At the “Academician Vernadsky” station, they didn’t just join the campaign—they turned it into a symbolic gesture of unity by raising the flag of the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov” and running across the snow-covered cliffs of Galindez Island.
The initiative was organized by the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov” together with the Lotus Fund, and it is dedicated to honoring Ukrainian heroes, particularly the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, as well as supporting active-duty military personnel who hold the line every day. The polar explorers climbed Vuzl-Gil—the island’s highest point, where the station is located—and it was there that they joined the run, proving that even at the edge of the world, one can be part of a common cause.
“Run the Line is a way to remain united despite borders and show solidarity with those who hold the line every day through real action. Because some lines are worth every step,” noted the 1st Battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov.”
The organizers emphasize that anyone can join the initiative, as the run takes place simultaneously on all continents from May 23 to 30, transforming the sporting event into a global gesture of support and remembrance.
