Two teenagers charged with murder of student in Australia

In Australia, two teenagers aged 14 and 16 have been charged with the murder of 23-year-old student Marco Tapia. He was shot on September 1 at a house in the Glen Alpine suburb in southwest Sydney. Detectives later confirmed that the shooters had mistakenly targeted the wrong house, ABC News Australia reports.

Arrests in Fairfield

At around 10:00 on Wednesday, law enforcement officers searched two properties in Fairfield as part of the shooting investigation. The teenagers were detained and taken to Cabramatta Police Station.

In addition to the murder charge, both are accused of participating in a criminal group for the purpose of facilitating criminal activity, possessing an unauthorized prohibited firearm, and two counts of driving a vehicle taken without the owner's consent.

Additional charge

The 14-year-old boy was also charged with damaging property by fire or explosion. Detectives allege that the teenagers prepared vehicles and provided a weapon to the shooter.

Both were refused bail. They are due to appear before the Children's Court on Thursday. The shooting investigation is ongoing.
