Estonia plans to remove 91,538 vehicles from register — ERR News
On November 1, Estonia’s Transport Administration plans to remove 91,538 vehicles with suspended registration from the vehicle register. These are vehicles whose status has not changed for at least seven years.
As ERR News reports, the agency identified these vehicles in July. Under the Traffic Act, they are considered missing and must be removed from the register.
The number of vehicles has decreased
In summer, the register listed 97,668 vehicles with suspended registration. Of these, 72,488 belonged to categories that will be subject to the vehicle tax from 2027.
Over the past three months, owners have taken certain steps, but 91,538 vehicles are still being prepared for removal. Of these, 68,053 will be subject to taxation next year. The administration urged people to check the vehicles registered in their name and take the necessary steps if needed.

What owners can do
An owner who wants to keep a vehicle with suspended registration must temporarily remove it from the register through the Transport Administration’s electronic service. During the procedure, photographic evidence that the vehicle exists must be provided through a special application.
Another option is to return the vehicle to active use. To do so, it must pass a technical inspection and have a valid motor insurance policy. If an owner has a vehicle but does not wish to keep it, it can be handed over to a recycling company that cooperates with the Transport Administration. The vehicle will then be removed from the register free of charge.
From 2027, the vehicle tax will also apply to vehicles with suspended registration. In addition, the state fee for removing a vehicle from the register without a certificate of destruction will increase to 800 euros. Currently, this procedure costs 15 euros.
