At least 901 people were executed in Iran from January through July 2026. This is according to a report by the Washington-based human rights organization “Abderrahman Boroumand Center.”

According to the organization, at least 56 of those executed were sentenced in political cases or on charges related to national security. Among them, 29 were linked to protests, 13 were accused of espionage, and another 14 were charged with other crimes against national security. In addition, 268 executions were related to drug-related cases.

The figures also indicate a disproportionate impact on ethnic minorities and other vulnerable groups. In particular, according to human rights activists, those executed included 98 members of ethnic minorities, 16 women, and two minors.

Five executions were carried out in public.

Just a week ago, EU countries demanded that Tehran halt the executions of participants in anti-government protests. Earlier this month, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed deep concern over the sharp increase in death sentences and executions.

According to the UN, this increase has been observed for the third consecutive year.

In a report to the UN General Assembly, Secretary-General António Guterres stated that at least 975 people were executed in Iran in 2024, a 17% increase compared to 2023. This was the highest annual figure recorded since 2015.

The report also documents a further sharp increase in the number of executions in the first half of 2025, with at least 612 executions recorded between January and June—an 119% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
