Israel investigates those who ordered Yanis Yushayev’s murder — Jerusalem Post

In Israel, police are continuing their investigation into the murder of Yanis Yushayev, whom the Jerusalem Post describes as the head of the so-called Caucasian mafia. Yushayev was shot dead on August 23 at a restaurant in Caesarea. More than a month after the attack, law enforcement officers are trying to identify the person or people who may have ordered the crime.

Shooting suspect

Charges have been brought against Doron Weizman: he is suspected of shooting Yushayev. At the same time, the Central District unit of Israel’s Coastal District police continues to search for those who may have ordered the murder.

According to investigators, at least some of those involved may have left Israel before the attack in order to create alibis for themselves. According to police, Weizman is not suspected of planning or ordering the murder.

Fears of new clashes

A source who had known Yushayev for many years told the publication that he had disputes with various groups in the criminal underworld. However, he could not say exactly whom the deceased had been in conflict with.

The source also mentioned rumors of a long-standing conflict linked to a murder at a store in Hadera several years ago. The source stressed that these claims have not been confirmed and are merely talk in criminal circles.

Following Yushayev’s murder, there are fears in Hadera of further organized criminal violence, including possible retaliatory attacks. The Jerusalem Post source believes that the group the publication calls the Caucasian mafia was not significantly weakened either by arrests or by Yushayev’s death.

According to the source, Yushayev was married, had two young children, and was involved in several types of business, including owning stores, a restaurant, and car dealerships.
