Driver detained in Israel for speeding at 217 km/h — Jerusalem Post

In southern Israel, police detained a 25-year-old resident of Eilat who was driving on Route 90 at 217 km/h on Tuesday evening in an area where the speed limit was 90 km/h.

Suspected drug use

Eilat police stopped the driver and took him in for questioning. During the conversation, law enforcement officers suspected that the man may have been under the influence of drugs. As reported by the Jerusalem Post, a police statement released on Wednesday morning said that this suspicion was later confirmed.

Charges and vehicle seizure

After a brief investigation, law enforcement officers filed an expedited indictment. The driver was charged with speeding, driving under the influence of drugs, and dangerous driving.

Police also requested that the man remain in custody until the proceedings are concluded. The vehicle was towed from the stop location and was to be seized for 30 days. The man's driver's license was also suspended for 30 days. The highest permitted speed in Israel is 120 km/h and applies on Route 6.
