In the Romanian city of Galați, a drone struck a high-rise building. The drone may have entered Romanian territory during a Russian attack on the Odesa region on the night of May 29.

The incident occurred amid another Russian airstrike using kamikaze drones against Ukrainian ports on the Danube River, which runs along the border with Romania.

The Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) confirmed that a drone struck a residential building in the city of Galați and provided details on the response to the incident.

According to the agency, the drone’s crash into the high-rise building caused an explosion, which sparked a fire in one of the apartments on the 10th floor. Rescue workers who arrived at the scene managed to quickly contain and completely extinguish the fire. The emergency response service also noted that as of 3:00 a.m., no other threatening drones had been detected in the airspace.

Romanian law enforcement agencies are currently launching a large-scale investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
