U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, arrived in Moscow by plane on September 5. After landing at Vnukovo Airport, the American officials headed to the center of the capital in a motorcade.
According to Russian media reports, the plane carrying Witkoff and Kushner landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport at 12:52 p.m. local time.
Axios journalist Barak Ravid later confirmed the arrival of the American delegation. According to him, the U.S. government plane, believed to be carrying Witkoff and Kushner, landed in Moscow around 1:00 p.m.
The American representatives were met at the Moscow airport by Kirill Dmitriev, Vladimir Putin’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
After the meeting, Dmitriev, Witkoff, and Kushner left Vnukovo Airport. Their motorcade headed toward downtown Moscow.
The rest of the American delegation’s itinerary in the Russian capital has not yet been officially disclosed.
According to the AP, Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow to try to resume the stalled negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
The last known visit by Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow took place in January, when they met with Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.
At the same time, Kushner, who is Donald Trump’s son-in-law, and Witkoff have not previously visited Kyiv.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects them to arrive in the Ukrainian capital on Sunday, September 6.
Thus, the current trip by the American envoys involves talks first in Moscow and then in Kyiv, against the backdrop of Washington’s renewed efforts to bring an end to the war.
