Argentine residents’ trips abroad fell by 21.2% in July
The number of Argentine residents who traveled abroad in July fell by 21.2% year on year to 1.22 million people. At the same time, 830,200 foreign visitors arrived in the country, up 17.9% from a year earlier, MercoPress reports, citing Argentina’s National Institute of Statistics and Censuses.
Brazil led tourism flows
Of the Argentine residents who left the country, 697,200 were tourists, while 531,100 made same-day trips without overnight stays abroad. Brazil accounted for 22% of outbound tourism, while Paraguay accounted for 15.2%.
Of the 830,200 foreigners who arrived in Argentina, 466,200 were tourists, with their number rising by 9.1%. The number of same-day visitors increased by 31.5% to 363,900 people. Such visitors are mainly concentrated in border cities or take day trips to Buenos Aires.

Tourism exchange deficit persists
Among tourists arriving in Argentina, Brazilian citizens accounted for 36.1%, while Uruguayans made up 16%. The category of “other countries of the Americas” ranked third with a 10.8% share, overtaking Chile.
In July, the number of Argentine residents traveling abroad exceeded the number of foreign visitors by approximately 398,000 people. In the first half of the year, the accumulated deficit totaled 3.49 million travelers: 2.9 million foreign tourists arrived in Argentina, while 6.38 million residents of the country traveled abroad.
In the second quarter, foreign visitors spent $608.8 million in Argentina, while Argentine residents spent $1.36 billion abroad. The negative balance amounted to $751.9 million. Foreigners’ average daily spending was $87.3 per person, compared with $105.8 for Argentines abroad.
