Nigerian Navy finds suspected stolen oil — Premium Times Nigeria
The Nigerian Navy discovered 119,850 litres of oil suspected of having been stolen at an illegal oil refining site in the Obbogolo community, Ahoada West area, Rivers State, Nigeria. As Premium Times Nigeria reports, the operation was conducted as part of Operation DELTA SENTINEL.
Discovery at the site
The Nigerian Navy’s Director of Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, said the discovery was made on 17 September by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS SOROH. According to him, the operation was conducted after intelligence was received about the location of the site.
The oil was stored in five excavated pits. The military also seized 350 litres of a suspected illegally refined petroleum product in six sacks and 25 packages of a substance suspected to be Cannabis sativa.

No arrests were made
According to Folorunsho, no one was arrested because the suspects fled after seeing the military personnel. The seized products and suspected substances were handled in accordance with applicable regulations.
The official also noted that several days earlier, the Federal High Court in Uyo convicted nine people who had been arrested during a Nigerian Navy operation under DELTA SENTINEL. In his assessment, the operation combines maritime and riverine interdictions with intelligence-led actions to counter oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta.
