1,613 energy facilities in Ukraine have been damaged as a result of Russian attacks, Shmyhal told the UN

As a result of Russian attacks in Ukraine, 1,613 energy facilities have been damaged, and the system lost 9 GW of generating capacity last winter alone. 

This was announced by Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal during a speech on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

According to him, the main goal is not simply to rebuild destroyed equipment, but to build a new, resilient, and European-standard energy system. To this end, the plan is to raise over €400 million through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund by the end of 2026.

The funds raised will be used to carry out repair work, purchase necessary equipment, and develop decentralized power generation throughout the country.
