The WHO has recorded nearly 500 cases of Ebola in East Africa

The WHO has recorded nearly 500 cases of Ebola in East Africa

The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts a further increase in the number of Ebola cases in East Africa. The number of confirmed cases could reach 500 in the near future.

According to the latest WHO data, 471 cases have already been confirmed, and the death toll has reached 82.

The vast majority of cases have been reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In neighboring Uganda, only 19 cases have been confirmed so far.

Experts note that over the past 24 hours, the rate of the disease’s spread has accelerated sharply, which may indicate a further worsening of the epidemic situation.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes that without prompt and decisive action, the current outbreak could surpass one of the most tragic Ebola epidemics in history in terms of scale.

This refers to the 2014 outbreak in West Africa, when more than 11,000 people died from the virus and the total number of infected individuals exceeded 28,000.

Experts emphasize that to curb the spread of the virus, it is necessary to promptly identify new cases, isolate patients, and strengthen epidemiological surveillance in the region.

Ebola remains one of the most dangerous viral diseases in the world, as the mortality rate during individual outbreaks can exceed 50% and sometimes reach even higher levels.

Canada has temporarily suspended the validity of visas and the processing of new applications for citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan due to the Ebola outbreak. The decision was announced by the Canadian government, citing public health measures. The restrictions have been implemented as a temporary measure for 90 days. This was announced by Canadian Immigration Minister Lena Matledge Diab during a briefing in Ottawa.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced his intention to urgently visit the city of Bunia in the Congolese province of Ituri. This region has become the epicenter of yet another dangerous Ebola outbreak.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded its 17th Ebola outbreak, which has already claimed the lives of 80 people. This time, the disease was likely caused by the little-studied Bundibugyo ebolavirus strain, rather than the more common Zaire ebolavirus.

Ethiopia has recorded its first outbreak of the Marburg virus, which is clinically similar to Ebola. The pathogen is capable of spreading rapidly, but there are no vaccines against it.
