World Vision Ghana signs WASH memorandum for rural communities — MyJoyOnline
World Vision Ghana has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly and the Asutifi North District Assembly in Ghana. The agreement provides for the development of water supply, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure and services in designated rural communities. The signing ceremony took place on September 24, 2026, in the town of Goaso, MyJoyOnline reports.
Responsibilities of the parties
The Asunafo North and Asutifi North assemblies are to facilitate engagement with communities, their mobilization and the involvement of local leaders. They are also to provide locally available resources, support the maintenance and sustainability of water and sanitation infrastructure, participate in training, and ensure the enforcement of local rules promoting compliance with sanitation and hygiene standards.
World Vision Ghana will provide technical expertise, training, financial and material resources for the project’s implementation. The organization will also be responsible for monitoring, reporting and evaluation, as well as for introducing safeguarding, gender inclusion and social accountability mechanisms.

Project goals and sustainability
The partnership is intended to expand access to safely managed water supply systems and sanitation services in the target communities. It also provides for changes in hygiene practices through Community-Led Total Sanitation approaches and for strengthening the capacity of district institutions and community structures to ensure the long-term operation of facilities.
World Vision Ghana’s Universal WASH Coverage Manager, Cephas Wedam, spoke about the sustainability mechanisms incorporated into the agreement. They include a professional facility management model, insurance for water infrastructure and a revolving financing fund to increase investment in WASH infrastructure. The integration of the Nurturing Care Group and Sesame WASH Up programs is also planned.
Acting National Director of World Vision Ghana Joshua Baidoo stated that the ultimate goal is to ensure that every community in the two districts has access to safely managed water supply. According to him, the parties aim to achieve at least 90% access to WASH services by the end of the project life cycle.
