Zakharova accused Romania of intending to annex Moldova

Zakharova accused Romania of intending to annex Moldova

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the international community should be more concerned about Romania’s alleged “annexation” of Moldova than about Russia’s occupation of Ukrainian territories. This statement was made by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on the situation surrounding a bill in the Romanian parliament that was placed on the agenda due to a procedural error.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Bucharest has allegedly long had plans to unite with Moldova, and that the international community should focus its attention on this issue rather than on Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

She commented on the situation surrounding the bill on the unification of Romania and Moldova, which came into the spotlight after it was considered by the lower house of parliament due to procedural irregularities. “It’s no secret that Bucharest is hatching plans to annex Moldova. This is nothing new to us; we talk about it all the time,” Zakharova stated.

At the same time, she herself noted that this bill passed the lower house precisely because of a procedural quirk, and the final decision has yet to be made by the upper house of the Romanian parliament.

In addition, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson reiterated the Kremlin’s position on the occupied Ukrainian territories. She once again claimed that the so-called “reunification” with Russia allegedly took place based on the will of the residents, and attempted to contrast this with a possible union between Romania and Moldova. “The word ‘annexation’ is constantly being used in reference to our country without any legal basis. All decisions regarding reunification were made exclusively on the basis of the will of the citizens,” Zakharova said.

It is worth noting that Ukraine, the European Union, the United States, and the vast majority of countries around the world do not recognize Russia’s occupation of Ukrainian territories and consider the so-called “referendums” held by Russia to be illegal and without any legal force. This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.

The Russian army loses at least 30,000 soldiers each month in the war against Ukraine, either killed or seriously wounded. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense in the “Ramstein” format. According to the head of state, these losses could become even greater if Ukraine continues to strengthen its defense capabilities.
