German Interior Minister Cut Short His Vacation Due to the Incident Involving a Ukrainian Plane – DW

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt urgently cut short his vacation and headed to Leipzig/Halle Airport after a drone carrying explosives was spotted near a Ukrainian aircraft. 

There, he is holding security meetings with Saxony’s Interior Minister Armin Schuster, Federal Police Chief Dieter Roman, and Head of Domestic Intelligence Sinan Selen.

Saxony’s Minister of the Interior has already classified the incident as a “very serious security incident.” The Joint Center for Countering Hybrid Threats and a special unit of the federal police dedicated to countering drones have been involved in the investigation, and the German Interior Minister will hold a press briefing following the meetings.

At Leipzig/Halle International Airport, a drone carrying an explosive device was discovered near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane. Due to the incident, airport operations were temporarily suspended for several hours.

Two arson attacks occurred in Germany on one of the key railway sections between Düsseldorf and Cologne.
