A traitor who coordinated the attack on the Yavoriv training ground died in prison

A 75-year-old former KGB agent and Lviv resident, Oleksandr Kostorny, who had been sentenced to 15 years in prison for treason, died in prison. He passed information about military facilities to Russian intelligence services and helped coordinate an enemy missile strike on the Yavoriv military training ground. His daughter announced his death on social media.

The investigation established that in early March 2022, Kostorny sent a map of the training ground to an FSB officer via Telegram, after which, on March 13, Russia struck the facility during exercises by Ukrainian military personnel, resulting in mass casualties.

During the trial, Kostorny did not admit guilt and claimed that he had sent the map to an acquaintance to mark “mushroom-picking and fishing spots,” however, law enforcement officials proved his systematic collaboration with enemy intelligence services and his promotion of “Russkiy Mir” ideology in the Lviv region.

In 2023, Kostorny was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Meanwhile, in the Lviv region, the Security Service’s military counterintelligence, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained another Russian double agent. He worked simultaneously for the FSB and Russian military intelligence and was planning terrorist attacks against Ukrainian Armed Forces commanders at the Yavoriv training ground.
