In Kyiv, the CP purchased plants with millions in losses
Law enforcement officials have charged the head of the municipal enterprise responsible for maintaining green spaces in the Desnianskyi District of the capital with embezzlement of public funds on a particularly large scale.
According to the investigation, the official purchased trees and shrubs from a private entrepreneur that could have been obtained free of charge from the municipal nursery.
The Desniansky District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv is currently overseeing the proceedings in this criminal case.
Investigators established that in the summer of 2023, the head of the municipal institution entered into an official agreement with an individual entrepreneur.
The subject of the agreement was the supply of various greenery for the district’s needs, totaling nearly 6 million hryvnias.
However, during an audit and specialized inspections, law enforcement officials discovered significant violations of current legislation in the selection of the supplier.
Within the structure of the Kyivzelenbud municipal enterprise, a separate unit—the Teremky municipal ornamental nursery—has been operating successfully for quite some time.
This specialized enterprise is directly engaged in the free cultivation of many plant species necessary for the planned greening of the capital’s streets.
Despite this, the official decided to ignore the available resources of his own agency and seek outside funding.
An expert review showed that the entity in charge could have legally and completely free of charge obtained a significant portion of the purchased goods from the municipal enterprise’s warehouses.
Instead, 1.2 million hryvnias were transferred from the city treasury to a private businessman for these items, causing losses to the local community in the same amount.
The issue of selecting a preventive measure for the suspect and removing him from office is currently being resolved.
