The EU has begun transferring €3.9 billion to Ukraine for the production of drones

The European Commission has begun disbursing the first tranche of 3.9 billion euros to support Ukraine’s defense sector, specifically for the development and procurement of unmanned technologies.

According to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the investment is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and developing modern technologies, particularly drones.

Today we are allocating the first tranche of 3.9 billion euros for cutting-edge drone technologies to strengthen Ukraine’s defense… Europe stands firmly by Ukraine for as long as it takes,” she said.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that the 3.9 billion euros have already been transferred to a special fund in the state budget.

The funds are planned to be used for the production of Ukrainian drones, strengthening the capabilities of the defense-industrial complex, and meeting urgent needs on the front lines.

This tranche is part of the Ukraine Support Loan program.

Earlier, on June 25, Ukraine had already received 3.2 billion euros in budget support, bringing the total funding under this instrument to 7 billion euros.

This was reported by the European Commission’s press service.

As a reminder, the European Union plans to provide Ukraine with 16.7 billion euros in budget support this year, half of which will come in the form of macro-financial assistance.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance and the World Bank signed an agreement for a €236 million loan guaranteed by the Swedish government to ensure stable coverage of key social expenditures in the state budget.
