The European Commission does not expect Poland to block Ukraine's accession to the EU over the UPA

Bilateral disputes between Kyiv and Warsaw over naming a Ukrainian military unit "after the Heroes of the UPA" should not affect Ukraine's integration into the European Union. 

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos emphasized during a meeting with journalists that such issues should be resolved exclusively through bilateral channels, and that no complications or obstacles to Ukraine’s European path are currently expected from Poland. 

The official opening of the first negotiation cluster with Ukraine, titled “Fundamentals,” is scheduled for June 15 during an intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg, and the European Commissioner expects to open the remaining clusters in mid-July. The country’s progress toward EU membership remains impossible without the implementation of mandatory reforms in the area of the rule of law, so the process of European integration cannot happen overnight. At the same time, Marta Kos believes that signing an accession agreement with Ukraine is entirely realistic by the end of her term in 2029 or by 2030, provided the necessary reform results are achieved.
