France was the first country in the EU to enact a blanket ban on social media for children under 15

The French Parliament has passed a bill banning children under the age of 15 from using social media. This measure, which is one of President Emmanuel Macron’s key reforms, also bans the use of cell phones in high schools (lycées).

Macron aims to implement the ban by the start of the new school year in September. However, the bill must first receive an opinion from the French Constitutional Council. The new law makes France the first country in the European Union to introduce such a restriction for teenagers.

Euronews reports on this.

Additionally, Indonesia has restricted social media use for children.

Austria may ban social media for children under 14.
