French doctors removed a schoolgirl's wisdom teeth instead of performing surgery on her leg
At the Centre MCO Côte d'Opale private clinic in Saint-Martin-Boulogne (France), a surgeon, due to a mix-up with another patient, removed all four wisdom teeth from a 17-year-old girl instead of performing the scheduled ankle surgery.
After waking up from anesthesia, the girl found cotton balls in her mouth, while her leg had not been operated on at all. The doctor admitted his mistake and apologized to the patient’s mother. The medical facility classified the incident as “medical negligence,” and the family filed a lawsuit.
A repeat procedure on the joint has been postponed for now due to the family’s loss of trust in the medical staff.
