Ireland plans to charge asylum seekers for housing, and Ukrainian

The Irish government plans to introduce a fee for public housing for working asylum seekers, which will vary depending on income, up to €238 per week. This decision, which is part of a strategy to improve migration policy, is due to the significant strain on the country's infrastructure. Estimates indicate that the new rules could affect around 7,600 people already living in public housing.

Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan announced nine payment levels, taking into account different income levels of citizens. There are some serious penalties for not paying, including legal action. Also, the Irish government is bringing in new rules for Ukrainian refugees, cutting their stay in public housing from 90 to 30 days, as more people are arriving.

The government is also considering canceling payments to Irish citizens who take in Ukrainians and suspending the construction of modular homes for refugees. Against the backdrop of a growing number of new arrivals, which reached record levels in September, this policy is sparking heated debate about the next steps in the country's migration policy.
