Russia has carried out the first launch of the Soyuz-5 carrier rocket after years of delays (video)
The first launch of the new Russian "Soyuz-5" rocket took place from the Baikonur Cosmodrome; its development took about ten years and was postponed several times. According to Russian state media, the launch proceeded as planned, and a mock-up of the spacecraft was placed into a suborbital trajectory.
The first launch of the single-use two-stage Soyuz-5 carrier rocket took place from the launch pad at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on the evening of April 30, Roscosmos reported.
Roscosmos stated that the first and second stages of the Soyuz-5 performed as planned, and that the "scale model was placed on the calculated suborbital trajectory." It will subsequently fall into the Pacific Ocean in an area closed to shipping and aviation.
