Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa's historic meeting with Donald Trump at the White House

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, a historic moment just days after Washington lifted his terrorist designation. Al-Shara'a became the first Syrian leader to visit the White House since the rule of Bashar al-Assad. It is worth noting that al-Sharaa's group, Yamat Tahrir al-Sham, was removed from the US terrorist list in July this year, which underscores the changes in foreign policy.

The meeting was held off camera, which is atypical for Trump, signaling the seriousness of the talks. Al-Sharaa hopes to receive American investment to rebuild the country after a long conflict and will discuss the possibility of joining the US-led international coalition to fight ISIS. In addition, there are plans to establish a US military base near Damascus to coordinate humanitarian aid and monitor the situation.

Al-Shara'a is now trying to distance himself from the past and establish a more moderate image, seeking positive changes in the region. His meeting with Trump is an important step in his transformation from rebel leader to global politician and raises hopes for new opportunities for Syria, especially in its relations with the United States and other countries.
