Italy is offering security guarantees to Ukraine based on the NATO model

Italy has proposed including security guarantees for Kyiv in the peace plan for Ukraine, similar to Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made this statement at a press briefing, according to the ANSA news agency.

"Specific proposals for the peace plan include security guarantees for Ukraine modeled on Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, and this was an Italian proposal that everyone initially viewed with suspicion, but it later became a proposal included in the peace plan documents. We continue to take our work seriously, also striving to offer possible solutions to our allies, and it seems to me that this is an element that everyone recognizes," Meloni said.

She added that during her meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, she will express support for Ukraine.

"As is well known, in recent years Italy has stood by Ukraine, which has been attacked, without any conditions or reservations. We have done everything possible to help a people who are defending themselves and, in doing so, are also defending us. And this is exactly what we will continue to do, working to build a path to peace that must be lasting, and in which Italy will not stand idly by," Meloni stated.

It is reported that the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. (Italian time) at the Quirinale (the Presidential Palace in Rome).

Recall that Meloni said it is too early to talk about a returnto Russian gas.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that she will confirm her full support for Ukraine to Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to the country.
