Only 8% of Russians consider the war to be very successful, according to a poll

According to a July poll by the Levada Center, only 50% of Russians believe that the war against Ukraine is progressing successfully (8% say “very successfully,” 42% say “somewhat successfully”). This is the lowest figure since the start of the full-scale invasion; the previous low was recorded in the fall of 2022 when mobilization was announced (53%).

Overall, over the past year, the share of respondents who assess the course of hostilities as successful has fallen by 19 percentage points. At the same time, 28% of those surveyed directly described the war as unsuccessful.

Experts attribute the decline in optimism to the fuel crisis, regular strikes on infrastructure targets in Russia, and the ruined resort season in occupied Crimea.

The approval rating for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s actions dropped by 5 percentage points in just one week. Russian sociologists have not recorded such a rapid decline in support since the fall of 2022, when a partial mobilization was announced in the country.

Intelligence: A new mobilization in Russia could trigger an economic crisis that lasts for years.
