The mayor of Chisinau was forcibly removed from the Moldovan parliament's chamber

The session of the Moldovan Parliament on Thursday, May 28, turned into a major scandal following the sudden appearance in the chamber of Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban. His visit sparked a heated debate and an exchange of mutual accusations between political opponents.

This was reported by NewsMaker.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu immediately called the mayor’s appearance a provocation and urged deputies from the ruling PAS party not to give in to their emotions. Meanwhile, the mayor of Chisinau was recording everything that was happening on his cell phone camera. The head of the legislature called on Ceban to leave the podium and move to the area specifically designated for visitors and citizens. The dispute subsequently escalated, and the mayor was forcibly removed from the chamber.

As TV8 reports, Ion Cheban himself claims that he came to the parliament building with exclusively peaceful intentions. According to him, he planned to officially address the deputies to oppose the planned reform of local public administration, as well as to protest the transfer of city schools under the direct authority of the Ministry of Education. The mayor added that the incident was planned, and that his forcible removal from the chamber took place on the direct orders of representatives of the ruling PAS party.

Earlier, the Moldovan Cabinet of Ministers approved the imposition of a 60-day state of emergency in the energy sector due to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. Cheban called for its repeal.
