An unidentified drone attacked the Turkish oil tanker Altura in the Black Sea — NTV

An attack occurred in the Black Sea on the Turkish tanker Altura, which was transporting crude oil from the Russian Federation.

The incident, which took place just 15 miles from the strategically important Bosphorus Strait near the Turkish coast, was reported by NTV.

The tanker, carrying 140,000 tons of oil, sustained significant technical damage as a result of the drone attack.

The damage was concentrated on the deck, the bridge, and the engine room, causing water to begin flooding into the ship.

At this time, the type of device used in the attack remains unclear—experts are determining whether it was an aircraft or a surface drone.

The ship’s crew, consisting of 27 Turkish citizens, reportedly was not injured in the explosion.

Upon receiving the distress signal, Turkish authorities promptly dispatched Coast Guard forces and rescue vessels to the tanker.

Rescue operations are focused on containing the leak in the engine room and preventing an environmental disaster in the Black Sea.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the Altura plays a key role in the aggressor’s logistics as part of Russia’s “shadow fleet.”

Moscow uses such ships to transport energy resources in circumvention of international economic sanctions.

Statistical data indicate extensive cooperation between the tanker’s owners and Russian oil suppliers.

Between January 2024 and July 2025 alone, this vessel transported approximately 6.0 million barrels of crude oil from Russian ports.

As a reminder, Romania and NATO have launched exercises in the Black Sea to repel a Russian attack.

Sibiga also noted that security in the Black Sea is possible only after the liberation of Crimea.
