South Korea raises rewards for reporting illegal betting up to $143,000

South Korea has significantly increased the rewards for reporting illegal gambling activities, with maximum payouts reaching up to $143,000. This measure marks an important step in combating illegal bookmakers harming the economy and society.

The reward depends on the importance of the information: up to $145,000 is paid for data on organizers of illegal businesses, up to $36,000 for reports on fixed matches, and up to $11,000 for participation in advertising, system development, or brokerage.

To file a complaint, one must verify their identity on the monitoring center’s website, provide the resource URL, and submit evidence such as login details, passwords, or screenshots. For each confirmed report that leads to blocking, around $11,000 is paid, with a monthly cap of $1,070 per informant.

Additionally, people are encouraged to report bank accounts used by illegal bookmakers. Informers receive about $72 for each confirmed account, with no limit on the number of reports.

This initiative aims to strengthen control and legality in South Korea’s gambling sector, increase effectiveness against illegal operations, and engage the public in fighting crime in this domain.

The new measures are expected to significantly reduce illegal betting activities and help cleanse the market of unscrupulous actors in the near future.
