The Hungarian Prime Minister arrived in Poland with a large delegation

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar began his first foreign visit since taking office with a trip to Poland. In Kraków, he visited historical sites, and will then travel to Warsaw for talks with Polish officials. This was reported by PAP.

 

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar arrived in Poland as part of his first foreign visit since being appointed head of government. The trip began in Krakow, where the Hungarian prime minister has scheduled a series of symbolic and diplomatic meetings.

According to the Polish news agency PAP, the first part of the visit is of a private nature. Magyar visited Wawel Cathedral and met with the Metropolitan of Kraków, Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś. The Hungarian delegation also plans to lay flowers at sites of special significance to both Poland and Hungary. These include, in particular, the monument to John Paul II, the Cross of St. Hedwig, and the tomb of King Stephen Báthory.

After the conclusion of the program in Krakow, the Hungarian Consulate plans to hold a press briefing with the Prime Minister. The official part of the visit will take place in Warsaw. There, Péter Magyar is scheduled to hold talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, President Karol Nawrocki, and the leadership of the Polish Parliament.

Interestingly, the Hungarian prime minister will travel from Krakow to Warsaw by train. Seven ministers arrived in Poland with him.

At the end of the trip, Magyar will also visit Gdańsk, where he is scheduled to meet with former Polish President and legendary Solidarity leader Lech Wałęsa. Back on May 13, following the first meeting of the new Hungarian government, Magyar confirmed that Poland would be the destination of his first foreign trip as prime minister.

After completing his visit to Poland, the head of the Hungarian government will travel to Vienna and from there return to Budapest.

In the coming weeks, Budapest may support the launch of official negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
