A pro-Russian tennis player has become the face of Vogue Online

Belarusian tennis player Arina Sobolenko, known for her pro-Russian views, has appeared on the digital cover of American Vogue. The athlete’s appearance in the magazine has already sparked a wave of criticism due to her public stances.

Vogue reported this on Instagram.

In an interview with the magazine, the Belarusian tried to justify her behavior during matches, saying that she had subsequently “changed her attitude toward emotional reactions on the court.”

Sobolenko said that in her youth she often showed her emotions and then got angry at herself for it. The tennis player also added that sometimes it is important for her to “let go of the situation” and release tension.

In the photos, the athlete appeared in several looks, including a shoot by the ocean and an indoor location.

Meanwhile, social media users criticized the magazine for collaborating with an athlete who has not condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Belarusian tennis player has repeatedly expressed support for Russian President Vladimir Putin, notably calling him a “super president.” The athlete also supports the regime of Belarus’s self-proclaimed president, Alexander Lukashenko.

Oleynikova harshly criticizedGucci for collaborating with Sobolenko.

As a reminder, Svitolina defeated Andreeva and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

Ukrainian tennis players also set a historic record at the junior Australian Open.
