Greece believes that there was more than one Ukrainian drone in its territorial waters

Greece believes that there was more than one Ukrainian drone in its territorial waters

According to the Greek General Staff, the detected drone turned out to be a Ukrainian “Kozak Mamai” model, not a Magura, and it was operating as part of a broader Kyiv operation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

This is reported by the Greek media outlet Kathimerini. Athens has already sent a message to Ukraine demanding the withdrawal of the remaining drones from its shores, and is also alerting its partners to the risks to security and the environment.

According to sources, the drone was transported by a ship without a permanent home port that had visited Libya; the Greek General Staff considers it unlikely that the drone took off from a Ukrainian-Libyan base. The U.S. provided some of the information for the investigation to the Greeks, and a draft of the findings has already been submitted to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Greece is currently considering appealing to the UN regarding the uncontrolled use of drones outside areas of armed conflict with Russia, and contacts at the highest political level are expected to seek clarification.

As a reminder, on May 7, an allegedly Ukrainian maritime drone was discovered in the coastal area near the island of Lefkada in Greece.

The Ukrainian company Uforce, which develops maritime drones, has officially denied any involvement with the device found in the Ionian Sea.

Greece has stated that the marine drone near Lefkada is of “Ukrainian origin.”
