Putin has changed his stance on peace talks with Ukraine, says Finland's foreign minister

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen stated that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is beginning to show signs of genuine readiness for peace talks regarding the war against Ukraine.

According to Valtonen, Moscow previously showed no desire to engage in dialogue and was merely dragging out the process.

“It is now clearly evident that Russia is beginning to feel greater pressure, as the economic situation is weak and the political landscape is no longer as favorable as it was just a few months ago,” explained the Finnish Foreign Minister.

The minister noted that during the meetings, the heads of the foreign ministries of European Union countries actively discussed the EU’s potential role in future peace talks.

In her view, the European Union is gaining more room for diplomatic activity, as the U.S. is currently focused on the situation in the Middle East and has not yet made progress in resolving the war between Ukraine and Russia.

“It seems that time is running out for Russia, not for Ukraine,” Valtonen emphasized.

At the same time, the Finnish foreign minister stressed that Ukraine and EU member states consider continued U.S. support for Kyiv to be critically important.

According to Valtonen, the allies expect Washington to remain engaged in the process of achieving a just and lasting peace.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is allegedly ready to receive Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Moscow for talks at any moment. According to Peskov, the so-called “special military operation” could be halted immediately after Kyiv makes a decision that, as the Kremlin claims, is “already well known” to the Russian side.
