Russia has intensified its attacks on Zaporizhzhia to overwhelm the air defense system
Recently, Russian troops have significantly stepped up their attacks on Zaporizhzhia. According to the head of the regional military administration, the occupiers are increasing the number of strikes in an attempt to overwhelm the Ukrainian air defense system.
He noted that the Defense Forces are managing to shoot down most aerial targets, but due to the intensity of the attacks, not all drones and guided bombs can be intercepted before they strike.
“The enemy is following a tactic—to overload our air defense so that, out of five guided bombs, roughly two reach their target, and out of seven, roughly three or four reach their target. The number of enemy guided aerial bomb attacks on the city has changed,” Fedorov said.
According to him, given the number of airstrikes, guided bombs have posed the greatest threat to Zaporizhzhia in recent weeks.
“We can shoot down about 50%, but the other 50% cause enormous damage and claim the lives of residents,” he noted.
Fedorov noted that because the air raid siren in the city sounds for more than 20 hours a day, people have stopped reacting to it. Therefore, a decision was made to introduce an additional alarm signal.
“It’s loud, but it can definitely save lives. The signal is broadcast via cell towers and isn’t tied to the internet or any app. A KAB missile takes 4–5 minutes to reach Zaporizhzhia, so residents will have 4 minutes to take cover,” Fedorov said.
He also assured that no public funds were spent on this.
This was announced during a briefing by Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
