The SBU has detained an official from the Kherson City Council on charges of taking bribes related to Starlink

The Security Service has exposed a director of a department at the Kherson City Council who demanded bribes for the maintenance of satellite communication terminals at city institutions. The official promised a local businessman contracts with kindergartens and municipal agencies in exchange for illegal payments.

This was reported by the SBU.

The official set a fixed bribe amount of 10% “kickback” of the total value of each contract signed. Law enforcement documented the signing of five such agreements for the maintenance of systems in a library, the executive committee, and educational institutions. To conceal the criminal activity, the funds were transferred to the bank cards of the suspect’s cohabitant.

The suspect was detained while receiving another installment of money; he faces up to eight years in prison. During searches, law enforcement officials seized equipment and mobile devices confirming the extortion of money under the threat of terminating existing contracts. An investigation is currently underway under the article on abuse of influence to establish all the circumstances of the corruption scheme.

Earlier, the SAPO and NABU exposed SBU investigators and a lawyer for taking bribes.

As a reminder, the organizer of a scheme to smuggle draft dodgers for $12,000 was detained in Kyiv.

Also, a TCC employee in Chernihiv region was detained for bribery.
